Author-Consultants: Request a Book Proposal Consultation from one of the Book House, Inc. Authors or Editors
Description: This is the core consultation at Book House, Inc.. This is a one-on-one non-fiction, memoir or creative non-fiction book proposal consultation with an established trade author or editor. Clients select the author they wish to work with and send a pitch through Book House Inc. to see if the author-consultant is willing to take on the project. This is a selective and serious process. Consultants will evaluate the strength of the project before committing to consultation.
Submission Requirements: In your request for a consultation, please write a compelling 200-word overview of your proposed project and explain your motivation in writing. Additionally, please add a 50 word biography, highlighting any interesting or professionally relevant experiences.
Author-Consultant Promise:
While every Author Consultant has his or her own approach, the team at the Book House is committed, roughly to the following in delivering its Proposal Consultation:
A 10-hour time commitment from Author-Consultant, divided between 4 hours in-person consultation (Zoom) and 6 hours of detailed revision/editing.
- Introduction (1 hour): One-on-one meeting to get to know the project, your proposal status and set ambitious yet realistic goals. (Zoom meeting)
- Proposal Briefing (2 hour): One-on-one meeting for Author to share book proposal requirements, structure, best practices tailored to your specific project status and needs. (Zoom meeting)
-A First Proposal Review (2-3 hours): Author provides detailed Revision of Overview, Annotated or Narrative Table of Contents, and the Introduction from a Sample Chapter. (Track Change Word Document)
-A Revision Consult (1 hour): One-on-one consult to discuss revisions and next steps (Zoom meeting)
--A Second Proposal Review (3 hour): Feedback and Detailed Revision of Sample Chapter and Final Proposal. Track Change Word Document)
--A Final Revision Consult (1 hour): One-on-one consult to discuss final revision and the plan to sell the proposal. (Zoom meeting)
Additional Details: Once a consult has been arranged, author-consultants will conduct an initial consult of one hour over Zoom to gauge the client’s needs and objectives and to get to know the project in detail. Next, the client and author-consultant will meet for a 1-2 hour crash course in proposal writing and specifically tailor this instruction t o the clients project. The first draft of the overview and annotated table of contents (the first stages of the proposal) are submitted in the weeks following the initial meeting. The author consultant then takes approximately 2 hours to revise and give feedback on this section of the proposal, closing with another Zoom meeting of an hour. The proposal is revised by the client and the sample chapter is submitted in the weeks following this second meeting. In turn, the author-consultant then conducts a final edit/revision of the proposal (approximately 2-3 hours of revision), concluding with a one-hour wrap up Zoom meeting where next steps and submission are discussed in detail. At the end of a successful consult, the Book House Inc. will evaluate the strength of the proposal and make recommendations regarding acquiring agents and contacting editors through Book House Inc..
