Description: This is a signature course of Book House, Inc.. Forty students will join two op-ed writers and one editor at a major outlet for this three week intensive course on the business of writing and publishing successful op-eds. Each instructor will be responsible for teaching a two-hour seminar and will split the role of reviewing op-ed drafts for the class. Before enrolling, participants will have interesting and motivating opinions and a deep desire to translate them into published op-eds in major outlets such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, or Harpers Magazine. Note that this workshop is for writers interested in writing popular op-eds and popular essays. You should also note that writing shorter nonfiction pieces can be used to create a portfolio that will help you make the leap to book writing should you wish. The six hours of class time will be structured in the following way:
Day 1--Op-Ed 101 (Writer 1)
Assignment: Write a Hook and 200-Word Introduction delivered prior to Day 2
Day 2--Essay 101 (Writer 2)
Assignment: Write a 300 word introduction to Personal or Literary Essay AND choose between Op-Ed or Essay to submit in full four days before Day 3 (NB: Day 3 is two weeks from Day 2)
Day 3--Hear from the Editor
Assignment: Submit a final draft of op-ed or essay to Book House Inc. team.
