Todd is currently the Class of 1941 Memorial Professor of Philosophy at Clemson University. He is the author of sixteen books of philosophy spanning French philosophy to contemporary ethical issues. His recent work focuses on life issues: meaning in life, suffering, and being morally decent. Todd was one of the founding contributors to the NY Times' column The Stone and has appeared there (and in other venues) many times since its inception. He was also a philosophical consultant for the hit television series The Good Place and is currently working with showrunner Mike Schur on Schur's forthcoming book of ethics, "How to Be Good: A Definitive Answer for Exactly What to Do, In Every Possible Situation." In addition to his philosophical writing, Todd does volunteer teaching in a maximum security prison and has been involved in progressive grassroots organizing for decades. He has also trekked in the Sahara by camel and dog mushed in the Arctic.
